I don’t know about you, but there are many days where I feel like “Ugh!”
Can’t be bothered to exercise.
Hit the snooze button 10 times!
Morning rituals – what morning rituals?
These dips are natural in our daily cycles. I learnt that the hard way after many, many, MANY such days.
It’s unsustainable. So it’s ok to have the down days.
What’s not ok is staying there. And downplaying your own credibility.
Because you have an off day doesn’t mean it’s all worthless. It means you peaked and now have to reignite.
The self-discipline you impose on yourself rescues you.
Rumi reminds us beautifully that it is THIS very discipline that polishes us. It extracts silver from the impurities on the surface.
On days when we “excuse” ourselves, our discipline kicks in to remind us of the journey we are on. Of purification.
And it doesn’t happen easy. We have to pass through the hot furnace of perseverance and determination.
We must hold ourselves accountable, especially on days when we don’t feel like it.
Even if you have to show up injured, get on the pitch. It will reinforce your inner strength.
And signal to your brain that this is IMPORTANT. It MATTERS.
Take a few minutes and write down a plan of action for your UGH! day. And you can be sure you will have one soon.
If you have a plan ready, you just follow it when your brain doesn’t feel like.
On those days, don’t let your brain direct you. Let your discipline and plan guide you.
